Race to Dubai Golf/Jarvis third and Otagui leads 47 places

Dubai, March 2, 2017 (WAM) – South African Casey Jarvis has strengthened his position in the “Race to Dubai” golf rankings for the DB World Tour season, after winning the Investec South African Open Championship, achieving his second title in a row within two weeks, and advancing to third place in the rankings issued today, taking a big step closer to qualifying for the season finals hosted by the UAE in Abu Dhabi and Dubai next November.
Last week, Jarvis won his first title on the tour through the Kenya Open Championship, before he continued his brilliance in front of his country’s fans yesterday, ending the tournament with a score of 14 strokes under par, in an edition that saw the fourth and final round stopped due to thunderstorms, which is the common factor in his victory in the two tournaments.
The player scored 500 points, raising his total score this season to 1,390 points in the “Race to Dubai” classification.
The tournament runner-up was shared by Italian Francesco Laporta, Frenchman Frederic Lacroix, and South African Hennie du Plessis, after they finished the competition with a score of 11 shots under par.
In terms of Emirati participation, Adrian Otaegui achieved the best result for an Emirati this season in the “DB World” tour, by finishing in sixth place with 8 strokes under par, earning 152 points, and advancing 47 places at once to 75th place in the “Race to Dubai” classification, which enhances his chances of competing to reach the final qualifiers.
The tournament is the eleventh leg of the DB World Tour calendar for this season, and one of the “International Series” tournaments, which includes seven tournaments held in five countries across two continents. It started in the UAE, and witnessed stops in Bahrain and Qatar, and will conclude in South Africa next week.
According to the calendar of the new “Race to Dubai” season, no less than 42 championships will be held in 25 countries around the world, with the UAE hosting the final qualifiers. The top 70 players qualify for the Abu Dhabi Championship at Yas Links from November 5 to 8, 2026, then the top 50 players qualify for the DB World Tour Championship at Jumeirah Estates Golf Club from November 12 to 15, 2026.
