Al Ain is close to renewing the contract of “historic scorer” Laba Kodjo

Emirates Today learned that Al Ain Football Club Company has made progress in its negotiations with the team’s historic top scorer, Togolese international Laba Kodjo, to renew his contract, which expires at the end of the current season, for an additional season.
The past few days witnessed a session between the two parties to discuss the details of the new contract, amid a positive atmosphere and optimism about the nearness of reaching a final agreement, in light of a mutual desire to continue the relationship, especially with the stable levels presented by the player, and the club’s keenness to maintain the stability of its offensive line instead of entering into the adventure of change.
Kodjo, who is the league’s top scorer this season with 17 goals, received two offers during the last winter transfer period, one from the Chinese league and the other from a Turkish club, but he preferred to continue with Al-Zaeem, and those negotiations did not advance to advanced stages.
Laba Kodjo joined Al Ain in 2019, and succeeded in establishing his position as one of the most prominent strikers in the club’s history, which prompted the management to renew his contract in 2023 for a period of three years, ending in the summer of this year.
The player continues to write his distinguished numbers, after he became the team’s historical top scorer, surpassing Ahmed Abdullah “Ghazal Al Ain”, who scored 124 goals in the club’s shirt, and his last goal against Baniyas raised his score to 135 goals, in fourth place in the list of historical scorers for the professional league.
Al-Nasr striker Ali Mabkhout tops the list of historical scorers with 228 goals, followed by former Al-Wahda star Sebastian Tigali second with 184 goals, and current Al-Wasl player Tefabio Lima comes third with 179 goals, while former star Fahd Khamis is fourth with 175 goals.
