The Egyptian Football Association clarifies the nature of the dispute with FIFA regarding the Pharaohs’ shirt

The Egyptian Football Association announced that there is no crisis over placing the stars of the Pharaohs’ national team championships on the players’ shirts during the World Cup competitions, which continue until July 19.

The media center of the Egyptian Football Association stated: “In light of what was circulated during the past hours regarding the Egyptian national team’s shirts, we would like to confirm that several months ago we received a communication from the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) regarding not allowing the placement of continental championship stars on the national team’s shirts during the World Cup competitions, within the framework of the tournament’s regulations and its usual procedures that are applied to all participating teams.”

He added: “The Egyptian national team and the Egyptian Football Association have been fully aware of this matter for some time, and the necessary arrangements have been made regarding it in coordination with the relevant authorities. Therefore, the matter does not represent any developments or surprises before the start of the tournament.”

He explained: “The International Federation also requested an amendment to the color of the numbers on the team’s shirts to become white instead of gold, in order to ensure greater visibility during matches and television broadcasts. This is a usual organizational and technical procedure, and the company responsible for the team’s sportswear implemented the required amendments in accordance with the regulations approved by the International Federation of Association Football.”

The Egyptian national team will begin its World Cup campaign next Monday against Belgium, and will also face New Zealand and Iran in Group G.

This is the Egyptian team’s fourth participation in the World Cup after participating in the 1934, 1990 and 2018 editions.
