Sultan Al Qasimi witnesses the opening of the 35th session of Sharjah Theater Days

Sharjah, 24 March / WAM / His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, witnessed this evening, Tuesday, the opening ceremony of the 35th session of Sharjah Theater Days, in which 14 theatrical performances and a number of theatrical artists and researchers from various parts of the Arab world participated, at the Palace of Culture.
His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah honored the Tunisian Wafa Al-Taboubi, director of the play “The Fugitives”, with the Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi Award for the Best Arab Theatrical Work 2025, and the winners of the Sharjah Award for Theatrical Composition, where Maryam Abdullah Mubarak from the Sultanate of Oman won first place for her text “A Will Before I Was Born,” and Ahmed Abdullah Rashid from the Emirates came in second place for his text “He Killed Himself,” while Badr came third. Al-Hamdani from the Sultanate of Oman for his text “The Station”.
The ceremony reviewed the members of the jury, which includes: Dr. Ajaj Salim from Syria, “Chairman of the Committee,” engineer Walid Al Zaabi from the Emirates, writer Mufleh Al-Adwan from Jordan, Dr. Hatem Darbal from Tunisia, and Dr. Rania Yahya from Egypt.
11 theatrical performances are competing for the Sharjah Theater Days Awards, as the jury chose 7 performances to be presented at the competition level, which are: the play “Choosing a Title” by the Sharjah Modern Theater Troupe, the play “Ghaeb Al-Soul” by the Kalba Folklore and Theater Society, the play “Sona” by the Dubai Al Ahli Theater, the play “Half Laila” by the Khor Fakkan Arts Theater, the play “Hair Qarmousha” by the Sharjah National Theater, and the play “Qamoos.” “Disappearances” by Yas Society for Culture, Arts and Theater, and the play “We Will Bring Her First Biography Back” by the Youth Arts Theater.
The program parallel to the competition also includes theatrical performances, which are: the play “When the Soul Chooses to Stand” by the Umm Al Quwain National Theater, the play “Empty Suitcases” by the Dibba Society for Culture, Arts and Theater, the play “The Waste Land” by the Fujairah Theater, and the play “Imagine” by the Abu Dhabi Society for Folk Arts and Theater.
The program of performances for the 35th session of Sharjah Theater Days includes two performances from the Kalba Short Play Festival, namely: “Without Certainty” and “You Are Not Jealous,” in addition to the intellectual forum accompanying this session under the title “The Director’s Visual Identity between Constancy and Transformation,” with the participation of researchers and theater practitioners from several Arab countries.
Al-Ayyam also hosts the 14th Sharjah Forum for Pioneers of Arab Theater, which annually celebrates outstanding Arab theater institutes and colleges, and provides them with the opportunity to keep up with the activities of theatrical days, learn about the local cultural scene, in addition to holding a group of lectures, training workshops, and cultural visits.
The ceremony was attended by: Sheikh Dr. Salem bin Abdul Rahman Al Qasimi, Head of the Office of His Highness the Ruler, Abdullah Mohammed Al Owais, Head of the Department of Culture, Dr. Mansour Mohammed bin Nassar, Head of the Legal Department of the Government of Sharjah, Mohammed Obaid Al Zaabi, Head of the Department of Ceremonies and Hospitality, Salem Ali Al Muhairi, Chairman of the Municipal Council of Sharjah City, and a number of senior officials, artists, intellectuals, media professionals, and theater lovers and enthusiasts.
