The Arab League Council renews its condemnation of the deliberate and brutal Iranian attacks on a number of Arab countries

The Council of the League of Arab States at the level of foreign ministers renewed its complete condemnation, in the strongest terms, of the deliberate and brutal Iranian attacks on the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, the Kingdom of Bahrain, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Sultanate of Oman, the State of Qatar, the State of Kuwait, and the Republic of Iraq, which targeted residential areas, vital infrastructure, civilian objects, diplomatic headquarters, and hotels, which constitutes a blatant aggression against the sovereignty of the Arab League. States, a threat to their security and a targeting of their civilian populations.

This came in a meeting held yesterday via video conference technology, chaired by Dr. Abdul Latif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Bahrain, devoted to discussing these heinous attacks. The Council stressed the right of the targeted countries to defend themselves, individually or collectively, and expressed full solidarity with the countries that were subjected to the treacherous Iranian attacks, based on the fact that Arab national security is an indivisible whole and its support for all efforts and measures taken by the targeted countries to defend their lands, maintain their security and protect their citizens. and its residents, including the right to respond to these attacks. He expressed full confidence in the ability of the targeted countries to repel the attacks, praising the readiness of their armed forces and air defense systems.

The Council affirmed that these brutal attacks on sovereign Arab Muslim countries cannot be justified by any argument, or passed according to any pretext, as they violate all principles of good neighborliness and blatantly contradict all meanings of Islamic brotherhood. It warned that these attacks would have long-term negative effects on relations with Arab countries that were not a party to the war, did not participate in it, and did not attack Iran.

The Council also affirmed that the Security Council’s adoption of Resolution 2817 (2026) reflects the collective will of the international community to preserve the sovereignty of states and maintain international peace and security, appreciating the support shown by brotherly and friendly countries. The Council urged Iran to quickly implement the resolution, immediately stop all forms of aggression against Arab countries, and refrain from any provocative actions or directing threats to neighboring countries, including the use of agents.

The Council condemned Iran’s provocative actions and measures aimed at closing the Strait of Hormuz, disrupting international navigation, or threatening freedom of navigation in Bab al-Mandab and international waters.

The Council called on the Islamic Republic of Iran to immediately stop all attacks against commercial ships, and to refrain from any attempts to obstruct legitimate traffic or undermine freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, stressing that such actions would expose the stability of the Arabian Gulf region, its vital role in the global economy and energy supplies, as well as international peace and security, to serious risks. He also condemned Iran’s non-compliance and blatant violation of Security Council Resolution No. 2817 (2026), reiterating that freedom of navigation is a fundamental principle of international law, including what is stipulated in the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea. The Council called on the countries of the world to take appropriate measures and contribute to appropriate efforts to ensure safe passage through the strait.

The Council welcomed the adoption by the United Nations Human Rights Council of a resolution dated March 25, 2026 on the human rights implications of the unprovoked attacks launched by Iran against the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, the Kingdom of Bahrain, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Republic of Iraq, the Sultanate of Oman, the State of Qatar, and the State of Kuwait. It stressed the importance of maintaining safe shipping routes in accordance with the law of the sea, and requests that the Islamic Republic of Iran provide full compensation. Effective and immediate compensation to all victims for the damage and losses they suffered as a result of its attacks against Arab countries.

The Council stressed its rejection and denunciation of Iran’s continued financing, arming and movement of its militias in several Arab countries to serve its interests, which constitutes a serious threat to the security and stability of those countries and the region.

The Council affirmed its support for Lebanon’s unity, sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity, and the necessity of extending the full authority of the Lebanese state over all its territories, ensuring the strengthening of its constitutional institutions and the preservation of national security and stability. It welcomed the Lebanese Council of Ministers’ decision issued on March 2, 2026, regarding the immediate ban on all security and military activities of Hezbollah, deeming them outside the law, limiting its work in the political field within constitutional and legal frameworks, and emphasizing the exclusivity of weapons in the hands of the Lebanese state and its legitimate institutions. Calling on active countries in the international community to put pressure on Israel to immediately stop its condemned attacks on Lebanon and implement the relevant international resolutions, and to affirm Lebanon’s position rejecting Iranian interference in Lebanese affairs.

The Council called on the active parties in the international community to put pressure on Israel, the occupying power, to end its illegal occupation of the Palestinian and Arab territories occupied in 1967, as soon as possible, to implement the two-state solution, to embody the independence of the State of Palestine along the border lines of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital, and to exercise the Palestinian people’s legitimate and inalienable rights, in order to end the Arab-Israeli conflict and provide just and lasting peace, security and stability in the Middle East.

The Council also stressed the need for Israel to stop all its illegitimate measures that undermine the two-state solution, and to respect the historical and legal status quo in Jerusalem and its Islamic and Christian holy sites, including the role of the Jerusalem Endowments Department and the Affairs of the Blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, affiliated with the Jordanian Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Holy Sites Affairs, within the framework of the historical Hashemite commandments over these holy sites as the only body authorized to manage the affairs of the Blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, the Holy Mosque of Jerusalem, which in its entire area constitutes a pure place of worship for Muslims.
