A UNIFIL soldier was killed in Lebanon as a result of a projectile explosion

A projectile exploded on Sunday night at a site of the United Nations force operating in southern Lebanon (UNIFIL), killing one soldier and seriously wounding another.
UNIFIL said in a statement: “A peacekeeper was tragically killed and another soldier was seriously injured, as a result of a projectile explosion at a UNIFIL site near Adshit Qusayr.”
The statement added: “We do not yet know the source of the projectile. We have begun an investigation to determine the circumstances of the incident.”
The statement continued: “We renew our call on all parties to fulfill their obligations under international law, and to ensure the safety and security of United Nations personnel and property at all times, including refraining from any actions that might expose peacekeepers to danger.”
The statement considered “deliberate attacks on peacekeepers to be grave violations of international humanitarian law and UN Security Council Resolution 1701, and may amount to war crimes.”
The official National News Agency reported that a strike targeted the headquarters of the Indonesian battalion in Adshit al-Qusayr.
