"Emirates Infrastructure and Housing" He reviews the developments of the Fourth Federal Axis project

ABU DHABI, 6 April, 2018 (WAM) – His Excellency Suhail bin Mohammed Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, chaired the first meeting of the Emirates Infrastructure and Housing Council for the year 2026, in the presence of His Excellency Mattar Mohammed Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai, members of the Council, and Undersecretaries of the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, to follow up on the implementation of strategic initiatives and projects aimed at developing the infrastructure system, enhancing transportation efficiency, and supporting integration between federal and local agencies, in a way that contributes to addressing… Traffic congestion, increasing the flow of movement, and improving the transportation experience nationwide, in line with the objectives of the “We Are the Emirates 2031” vision.
The meeting comes within the framework of an integrated government approach that focuses on developing proactive solutions that enhance the readiness of national infrastructure, keep pace with rapid urban and economic growth, and consolidate the country’s competitiveness in infrastructure and transportation indicators.
During the meeting, which was held via video communication technology, the Council reviewed a number of topics on the agenda, which included the results of the study of federal policies related to limiting the growth of vehicles, and solutions for mass transportation between the emirates of Dubai, Sharjah, and Ajman, in addition to the developments of the fourth federal axis, and efforts to increase the capacity of federal roads linking the emirates of the country.
In detail, the Council reviewed the developments of the Fourth Federal Corridor Project, one of the most prominent strategic projects for developing the road network, which aims to enhance connectivity between the emirates of the country and raise the capacity, thus contributing to alleviating congestion and improving the flow of movement. Technical developments were reviewed, including updating connection points and coordination with local authorities to approve the final routes in a way that ensures integration with development plans.
The project includes the implementation of a federal road approximately 68 kilometers long, with the construction of 10 main intersections, 6 to 8 lanes in each direction, in addition to 4 overhead crossings, at an estimated cost of about 6 billion dirhams, within the framework of qualitative investments that support future growth.
Regarding mass transportation, the Council reviewed an integrated study to develop the transportation system between Dubai, Sharjah, and Ajman, in light of the high demand for daily transportation, which includes implementing a network that includes 10 main routes, including BRT buses and designated routes, and linking them to vital stations such as the metro and city centers.
The Council discussed developments in the current situation, including the efforts made during the recent weather conditions, and mechanisms for dealing with rain challenges, to ensure the continuity of traffic movement and the safety of road users.
The importance of benefiting from lessons learned to enhance preparedness and raise the efficiency of future response was emphasized, by developing proactive solutions and enhancing the integration of roles between concerned parties.
The Council explained that work is underway to develop a package of sustainable solutions to enhance the mass transportation system, by operating vital paths linking densely populated areas with business centers, which contributes to reducing dependence on private vehicles, alleviating traffic congestion, and providing flexible and safe transportation options, within an integrated national approach based on coordination and adoption of smart solutions. The Council also discussed developments in linking the Emirate of Ajman to the third and fourth federal axes, which supports the provision of effective traffic alternatives, enhances the flow of movement, and raises the efficiency of movement between the emirates. His Excellency Suhail bin Mohammed Al Mazrouei stressed that developing the infrastructure system represents a fundamental pillar of the comprehensive development process, and a major axis for enhancing the country’s competitiveness, in light of a national vision that places quality of life and sustainability of resources at the top of priorities.
He pointed out that the next stage requires accelerating the implementation of specific projects that enhance the efficiency of the transportation system and support the shift towards smart and sustainable modes of transportation, keeping pace with population growth and urban expansion, and contributing to addressing traffic congestion and consolidating the concepts of integrated cities. He pointed out that the development of mass transportation represents a strategic priority, through the adoption of advanced models that enhance integration between means of transportation, and provide effective and safe transportation options, which contributes to reducing congestion, reducing emissions, and improving the efficiency of resource use.
His Excellency explained that the strategic projects, most notably the Fourth Federal Corridor, embody the state’s commitment to developing a flexible and expandable infrastructure that enhances connectivity between the emirates, supports economic movement, and facilitates the movement of people and goods.
