Fears of Harry Kane’s absence from the Bavarian club against Real Madrid

Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany will make a last-minute decision regarding Harry Kane’s participation against Real Madrid in the Champions League quarter-final first leg on Tuesday, despite the English striker’s return to training on Monday after recovering from an ankle injury.

The 32-year-old England captain missed his country’s 0-1 friendly defeat against Japan last month due to an injury, and he also did not participate in Bayern Munich’s 3-2 win over Freiburg.

Harry Kane’s potential return would be a huge boost for Bayern, as the decisive striker has scored 48 goals in 40 matches in all competitions this season.

The six-time European champion will ensure that Kane is fully fit as he prepares to face Real Madrid, who easily qualified for the quarter-finals with a landslide 5-1 aggregate win over Manchester City.

Kompany told reporters: “It was important that he trained a lot today. I don’t think he lost his rhythm. We will wait until tomorrow and then decide. All players are available except goalkeeper Sven Ulreich. We have a strong team and we are ready for the two home and away matches.”

Bayern arrives in Madrid at the top of their game, nine points ahead at the top of the German League, and also finished second in the Champions League stage, during which they suffered only one defeat.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid is seeking to recover after its 1-2 loss in the Spanish League against its host Mallorca, which is threatened with relegation, on Saturday.

Kompany said: “The most important thing is that we focus fully on tomorrow’s match. We want to show our capabilities. We will do our best to achieve that. All I hope is that we win without any fear.”
