"The Emirati family in crisis management in the past" Between steadfast memory and wisdom

Sharjah, April 7, 2017 (WAM) – Today, the Sharjah Institute for Heritage organized a symposium entitled “The Role of the Emirati Family in Managing Crises and Disasters in the Past,” which reviewed the experiences of the past and drew inspiration from their lessons in facing the challenges of the present, with the participation of an elite group of academics and researchers and a remarkable presence of interested parties and the media.
The symposium shed light on the inherited experiences that embodied the ability of the Emirati family to adapt to crises and the system of values on which it was based, such as patience, solidarity and good management, and its role in overcoming various environmental and social challenges over time.
Aisha Ghabish, Director of the Institute’s Events and Dialogue Activities Department, explained that this dialogue symposium came to shed light on real experiences experienced by Emirati society in the face of crises, as the speakers shared stories and situations from memory that reflected the ability of the Emirati family to adapt and coexist with difficult circumstances, noting that the symposium highlighted important aspects of the social solidarity that was prevalent in the past and how families cooperated among themselves to overcome challenges.
The symposium concluded by emphasizing the importance of drawing inspiration from the experiences of the Emirati family, rooted in heritage, as it is a fundamental pillar in enhancing community cohesion and its ability to confront contemporary crises with awareness and confidence.
The participants discussed the cultural and social dimensions of the family’s role in managing crises, how to deal with dangers in the past, the wisdom of patience and the ability to face the vicissitudes of life, especially in marine environments and the challenges and obstacles that accompany them, in addition to the societal values that strengthened family cohesion, the role of society in overcoming challenges and risks, and the importance of defending the homeland and national responsibility in times of distress, stressing the vital role of Emirati women in managing crises and enhancing family stability.
