ABU DHABI, 7 APRIL / WAM / The Abu Dhabi Fund for Development continues to consolidate its presence as an effective development partner in supporting the health sector globally, by financing specific projects that contribute to developing health infrastructure, raising the efficiency of medical services, and expanding the scope of health care beneficiaries, in line with the vision of the United Arab Emirates, which places human health and quality of life at the top of its development priorities.
World Health Day 2026, which the world celebrates this year under the slogan “Together for Health… Support Science,” is an occasion to highlight the development approach adopted by the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development in supporting the health sector, which contributes to improving the quality of health services and enhancing the ability of health systems to provide integrated, high-quality services that meet the needs of communities in partner countries.
His Excellency Mohammed Saif Al Suwaidi, Director General of the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development, said: Investment in the health sector represents a fundamental strategic pillar within the Fund’s priorities, given its vital role in supporting the stability of societies and enhancing their ability to grow sustainably. We are keen to direct our funds towards quality projects that improve the health infrastructure, expand the scope of services, and enhance efficiency by adopting the latest digital solutions in the medical field, which reflects positively on the quality of life of individuals in partner countries.
He added: These efforts are an extension of the UAE’s vision, which places people at the heart of development, and adopts an integrated approach based on innovation and effective partnerships. Through our health projects, we work to provide the best health care services to benefit communities and ensure a safe and sustainable healthy environment for them.
Abu Dhabi Fund for Development projects in the health sector embody this trend, the most prominent of which is the project to improve access to health care in Uzbekistan, which aims to serve about 3.5 million people, and includes developing and expanding existing hospitals and providing them with modern equipment, thus raising the efficiency of health services and enabling more than 34,000 patients annually to obtain specialized medical care, including raising the capacity of the Kashkadarya Medical Center from 228 to 300 beds. The project contributes to providing new job opportunities and enhancing equity in access to health services between urban and rural areas.
As for the Maternity and Childhood Hospital project in Kazakhstan, it includes developing the hospital with a capacity of 80 beds, to provide an integrated medical environment that takes care of the health of mothers and children and improves the quality of care. The hospital consists of two floors with a total area of approximately 17,280 square meters. The project includes providing all medical equipment and supplies necessary for hospital operations, in addition to treatment rooms, doctors’ offices, hospital administration, and the necessary support services.
While the Fund invested in developing the SIS Hospital in Vietnam with a capacity of 181 beds, to provide specialized services in treating strokes, as the hospital receives more than 200,000 patients annually, and includes a medical team of about 279 doctors. The hospital includes the latest technologies and advanced medical devices, making it one of the most prominent health centers specialized in this field in the region.
The Digital Health Center – Virtual Hospital in Jordan represents an advanced model of digital transformation, by linking health institutions to a unified digital system that supports the provision of remote health care services. During the first phase of the project, 5 hospitals were connected to peripheral areas, and 3 centers distributed across the regions of the Kingdom, and during the next phase, 11 health centers and 7 hospitals will be connected. The implementation of the project, which was funded by the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development, comes within the framework of a strategic partnership with the Emirati company BriSight, which in turn provided specialized devices in the field of digital technologies and solutions supported by artificial intelligence for the center.
This trend reflects the pioneering role played by the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development since its establishment in 1971, in supporting vital priority sectors, especially the health sector, by financing strategic projects that contribute to achieving sustainable development and enhancing the quality of life. Through these projects, the Fund continues to consolidate the UAE’s position as a reliable global partner in supporting development efforts and building a more prosperous and sustainable future.
