The President of the African Union visits Senegal after the final crisis against Morocco

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced that its president, Patrice Motsepe, will pay an official visit to Senegal on Wednesday to discuss ways to enhance sports cooperation and develop football on the African continent.

Motsepe is scheduled to meet with the President of Senegal, Basserou Diomai Fay, within the framework of coordination between political and sports leaders to support the ambitious football projects led by Senegal as one of the major football powers in Africa.

The agenda of the visit also includes holding a working meeting with the President of the Senegalese Football Federation, Abdoulaye Fall, to discuss the latest developments related to infrastructure, continental competitions, and the development programs supervised by the African Confederation in cooperation with the national federations. These moves come in the context of the inspection tours that Motsepe is keen on strengthening ties with member states, closely examining the reality of the game, and ensuring alignment of the CAF’s strategic plans with the aspirations of the local federations.

The official CAF website did not clarify whether this visit would address the issue of stripping the Senegalese team of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations title and awarding the title to Morocco, based on the decision of the Disciplinary Committee of the Confederation of African Football, considering that the “Lions of Teranga” withdrew from the field temporarily during the final of the continental championship.
