Remote control applications are a gateway to fraud and money theft

Abu Dhabi Police warned, as part of the “Be Cautious” campaign, of the danger of downloading remote control programs on smart devices, whether phones or computers, stressing that they have become one of the tools that fraudsters exploit to carry out their criminal operations to seize money and steal information.
She explained that these applications are originally used for legitimate purposes such as technical maintenance, remote work, or screen sharing, but some fraudsters deliberately deceive victims and convince them to download them under the pretext of providing assistance or solving technical problems, so that they can then fully control the device and access sensitive data.
She urged the public not to submit to suspicious phone calls requesting to download software or share confidential information, stressing that banking and bank employees never ask for bank account data, credit card numbers, passwords, secret numbers, or verification codes (OTP).
She called for the need to be vigilant and cautious and not share any sensitive information, to avoid falling victim to fraud, stressing the importance of downloading applications from official and reliable sources only.
It appealed to the public, in the event of any fraud attempt, to quickly report it by contacting “Aman” on the number 8002626 or via text messages to 2828, or to go to the nearest police station, in order to enhance efforts to combat cybercrime and protect society from its dangers, while emphasizing the importance of using protection programs and updating them continuously.
