Juventus extends Spalletti’s contract until 2028

Juventus has extended the contract of its coach Luciano Spalletti until the year 2028, knowing that he was appointed to his position last October, according to what the 36-time Italian Football League champion announced through his social media accounts on Friday.
Juventus confirmed this extension, which the Italian press had talked about a few days ago, by publishing a video of a speech Spalletti gave to his players.
The Italian coach said in the video, “It was important to inform you of the matter first, before it became official: We decided to extend my contract for an additional two years.”
Juventus’s French general manager, Damian Comolli, explained in a statement, “It immediately became clear to everyone that Luciano is the right person to lead the team on the path of development and growth.”
“His ambitious playing style aligns with the aspirations of our fans and the club, and his values embody our identity.”
Spalletti, 67 years old, was appointed to his position on October 30, succeeding Croatian Igor Todor, at a time when the team was occupying seventh place in the Italian League, before leading him to fifth place now, only one point away from fourth place, which qualifies for the Champions League.
Under the leadership of the former Napoli coach, who won the Italian League title in 2023, Juventus won 12 of its last 22 matches in the local league, compared to four defeats and six draws.
But the team was eliminated from the Champions League early by Galatasaray of Turkey after a harsh 2-5 loss in the first leg in Turkey, despite winning the return leg 3-2 in Turin after an extension for two additional periods, as part of the qualifying round to the 16th final.
Although he did not completely succeed in giving his team the required continuity, after it was eliminated from the quarter-finals of the Italian Cup with a 0-3 loss to Atalanta, Spalletti relaunched his coaching career in a remarkable manner. Spalletti had suffered a miserable failure at the helm of the Italian national team, for which he was appointed coach in August 2023.
He narrowly escaped dismissal the first time after the defending champions, the Blue Team, were eliminated from the 2024 European Cup final, but the heavy loss to Norway in Oslo (3-0) last June at the opening of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers was the decisive factor in his dismissal from his position.
Juventus, which ranks fifth with 57 points, will host Atalanta Bergamo, seventh with 53 points, and is also one of the candidates for European participation on Saturday.
