American and Iranian negotiating teams may return to Islamabad

Four sources told Reuters today that it is possible that negotiating teams from the United States and Iran will return to Islamabad this week, days after the highest-level talks between the two countries since 1979 ended in the Pakistani capital without achieving any result.
The Associated Press quoted American officials as saying that Pakistan has proposed hosting a second round of talks between the United States, the United States and Iran in Islamabad next Thursday, before the ceasefire ends.
The two officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to the media, explained today that this proposal will depend on whether the two parties request the meeting to be held in a different place or not.
While one of the officials said that although the first round ended without an agreement, these talks are part of an ongoing diplomatic process and not a one-time attempt, while a diplomat from the mediating countries went further, saying that Tehran and Washington agreed to hold the second round.
This comes while the sources indicated that it is unclear whether a delegation is expected to participate at the same level.
As for the location of the possible round, the diplomat and the two American officials said that there is discussion about the Pakistani capital, Islamabad, being the site to host the talks again. While the two officials explained that Geneva was also presented as an option.
