المملكة: "Literature body" Reviews an initiative "translate" At the Bologna International Book Fair


The Director General of the General Administration provided the translation with Literature, Publishing and Translation AuthorityDr. Haila Al-Khalaf, held a specialized symposium within the cultural program of the Bologna International Fair 2026, during which she reviewed the experience of the “Translate” initiative" And its role in developing Children’s Literature in the Arab world and enhancing its presence globally.

Al-Khalaf highlighted the initiative’s achievements since its launch in 2021, as it supported the translation of more than 460 books for children and young people, stressing that the initiative is not limited to transmitting texts, but rather focuses on building a thinking generation, by introducing books that enhance Critical and philosophical thinking among children, in addition to books that address human values.

Multiple cultures

Al-Khalaf highlighted the efforts "translate" In diversifying the cultural content directed at the Arab child, by translating international works from multiple cultures, while preserving their privacy, in addition to developing interactive books that support linguistic and cognitive development in the early stages.

She said that the initiative contributed to the translation of 53 Saudi children’s stories into 8 languages, in a step that enhances the access of Saudi culture to readers around the world, explaining that the initiative seeks, by 2030, to build a rich library for the Arab child that combines local production and international content, reflecting the diversity of Human experiences and enhances cultural openness.

Promoting the culture of reading

She explained that the initiative "translate" It comes within an integrated national system led by the Literature, Publishing and Translation Authority to promote the culture of reading among children, through a number of programs and initiatives, including the Children’s Literary Week, the Baba Taher Award, and the Baba Taher Platform. "Two understandings" Digital, in addition to publishing book selling devices in public places.

Al-Khalaf concluded the symposium by emphasizing that investing in children’s literature is an investment in the future, noting that the book may not change the world on its own, but it contributes to creating a generation capable of making change.

Presence of Saudi Literature

This symposium comes within the framework of the efforts of the Literature, Publishing and Translation Authority to enhance the presence of Saudi literature in international forums, and to introduce its qualitative initiatives in the fields of literature and publishing. And translation, as the Kingdom participates in the Bologna exhibition with a cultural program that keeps pace with the transformations of children’s literature globally.

It offers sessions dealing with translation, narration, philosophy, and environmental awareness presented by a group of specialists, in addition to the role of literature in building bridges of dialogue between cultures in a presence that reflects the diversity of the Saudi experience, and extends children’s literature to broader horizons.
