Dubai Municipality has completed 36% of the rain drainage project in the Deira region at a cost of 500 million dirhams

Dubai, April 15 / WAM / Dubai Municipality has completed 36 percent of the project to develop the infrastructure for the rainwater drainage system in the Deira region, which has a total cost of 500 million dirhams and serves 13 vital areas with an area of 4,700 hectares by developing rainwater networks with a length of 60 kilometers, with a timetable for completion by the end of the year 2027, thus constituting a qualitative addition that enhances the efficiency of the rainwater drainage system.

During an inspection tour, His Excellency Eng. Marwan Ahmed bin Ghalita, Director General of Dubai Municipality, accompanied by a number of executive, administrative and engineering leaders, was briefed on the scope and objectives of the project, developments in the progress of work, and follow-up of progress in the areas it covers, which include Al Qusais 1 and 2, Oud Al Muteena, Mizhar 3, Al Twar 1 and 3, Muhaisnah 4, Al Nahda 2, Al Qusais Industrial 1, Al Garhoud, Casablanca Road, Dubai Airport Area and Al Rashidiya, where all works are being carried out according to advanced engineering techniques. It ensures efficient implementation, maintains residents’ comfort, and supports business continuity and commercial activities.

The work of the first phase out of three main phases of the project included the implementation and development of water drainage networks with a length of 22 kilometers and diameters of up to 2.5 metres, in addition to a new pumping station near Dubai Creek with a capacity of up to 8,000 litres/second, which supports the efficiency and effectiveness of the rainwater system in the region.

The project is one of the most important projects being implemented during the first phase of the “Tasreef” program to develop the rainwater drainage network in Dubai. It is the largest program to collect rainwater in one system in the region and the most efficient and most flexible at a cost of up to 30 billion dirhams.

The program aims to improve the infrastructure capabilities of the drainage system and enhance the absorptive capacity by 700 percent, while reducing the costs associated with establishing stations, operations and maintenance by 20 percent, and increasing the lifespan of the network, thus consolidating the emirate’s leadership among the world’s most advanced and flexible cities in its infrastructure.

His Excellency Eng. Marwan Ahmed bin Ghalita, Director General of Dubai Municipality, said that Dubai Municipality continues to implement the project package of the “Tasrif” program to develop the rainwater drainage network in Dubai, which represents the backbone of our projects to enhance the efficiency of the strategic infrastructure in the emirate and make it more sustainable, advanced, and adaptive to various future climate variables according to innovative and proactive engineering solutions that reflect Dubai’s approach to building a model of resilient cities of the future.

His Excellency added: We are committed to making Dubai a leading city, more prepared and more quality of life in every task and project we accomplish in accordance with international standards that preserve the safety of its residents and visitors, improve their quality of life, and support the growth of their businesses and projects within the best city to live and work in the world.

For his part, Engineer Adel Mohammed Al Marzouqi, Executive Director of the Waste and Sanitation Corporation in Dubai Municipality, said: Through the project to develop the rainwater drainage system in Deira and related areas, we focus on enhancing the operational efficiency of the drainage networks by implementing flexible engineering solutions in accordance with the latest international standards and practices so as to enhance the absorptive capacity, reduce the risks of water accumulation, and raise the efficiency and sustainability of the infrastructure, in addition to improving the level of services provided to the residents of the region in a way that supports sustainable development paths and maintains the continuity of business and commercial activities in one of the most important vital areas. Within the Emirate of Dubai.

Dubai Municipality works to manage rainwater drainage and sewage networks according to a smart and comprehensive planning and operational vision that keeps pace with the latest standards and practices of smart city management.

It also continues its efforts to develop a flexible infrastructure for rainwater drainage within the “Tareef” program, according to engineering solutions and smart and innovative technologies that enhance dealing with rainwater and surface water flows and preserve the safety of residents and property within a sustainable and advanced urban environment that supports urban development plans.
