The General Women’s Union establishes strategic partnerships in Beijing to consolidate women’s presence globally

BEIJING, 19 APRIL / WAM / The delegation of the General Women’s Union, headed by Her Excellency Noura Khalifa Al Suwaidi, Secretary-General of the Union, held a series of official meetings in the Chinese capital, Beijing, which included meetings with the Beijing Municipal Government and the All-China Women’s Union, as part of an official visit aimed at strengthening institutional cooperation and exchanging experiences in the areas of women’s empowerment, with the support of the UAE Embassy in the friendly People’s Republic of China.

During the meetings, the Emirati experience in empowering women was highlighted as a model based on an integrated strategic vision established by the wise leadership, and supported by Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, “Mother of the Emirates”, President of the General Women’s Union, President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, Supreme President of the Family Development Foundation, and contributed to enhancing women’s presence as an essential partner in the development process at the local and international levels.

During a meeting with His Excellency Li Fuying, from the Beijing Municipal Government, the two sides discussed ways to enhance institutional cooperation and exchange experiences in developing comprehensive policies and initiatives that support the empowerment of women, with a focus on their economic, developmental, social and cultural dimensions, in addition to exploring opportunities to launch joint initiatives that contribute to expanding women’s participation and enhancing their role in various vital sectors, in a way that supports the integration of efforts between the two sides and keeps pace with the requirements of the next stage.

The delegation held an extensive discussion session with Ms. Lin Yi, Vice President and Member of the General Secretariat of the All-China Women’s Federation; During the meeting, the institutional frameworks that support women’s empowerment were reviewed, and ways to develop areas of cooperation in programs and initiatives directed at them at the societal and economic levels.

The All-China Women’s Federation, founded in 1949, is one of the largest national organizations concerned with women’s affairs. It plays a pivotal role in representing women, defending their rights, and enhancing their participation in various fields of development, through a broad organizational system that extends across six levels, including national and local, which reflects the depth of its presence and influence at the community level.

As part of enhancing the knowledge aspect, the delegation visited the Chinese National Museum of Women and Children, and learned about the Chinese experience in documenting the journey of women and children throughout history.

The General Women’s Union presented a group of souvenirs to the museum, the most prominent of which was an “Emirati women’s dress” to be displayed among the countries’ collectibles and gifts there, in a step that reflects pride in the Emirati national identity and contributes to building bridges of cultural and civilizational communication between the two friendly peoples.

The delegation concluded its visit by emphasizing that these meetings translate the vision of the General Women’s Union in expanding the scope of international partnerships, ensuring the mutual transfer of innovative practices and the development of joint programs, to enhance the position of Emirati women as an active and influential element in the global development system.
