Zayed Environment Foundation: The UAE is a global model in adopting policies and projects to preserve nature and achieve sustainable development

Dubai, April 21, WAM / Dr. Mohammed Ahmed bin Fahd, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Zayed International Foundation for the Environment, confirmed that the UAE is proud to have launched a series of strategic initiatives that included expanding renewable energy, establishing natural reserves, implementing afforestation programs and restoring environmental habitats.
This came on the occasion of Earth Day, as the world celebrates it on April 22 of each year with the aim of highlighting the efforts that have been achieved to protect the environment and enhance awareness of climate issues, while the UAE stands out as a global model in adopting specific policies and projects to preserve natural resources and achieve sustainable development.
Ibn Fahd said that the UAE is proud in this regard to establish natural reserves, implement afforestation programs and restore environmental habitats, explaining that the “Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Energy Park” is one of the most prominent global projects in the field of clean energy, along with the Shams station (Abu Dhabi).
He added that all of these projects contribute to reducing emissions and enhancing energy security, noting that the country has worked to protect biological diversity by establishing more than 49 terrestrial and marine reserves, in addition to a global biorepository project in Dubai, in a step that represents an important shift towards the era of proactive genetic conservation.
He added that with regard to the agricultural sector, the UAE has supported sustainable and smart agriculture techniques, including hydroponic and vertical agriculture, with the aim of reducing water consumption and enhancing food security, which means that the country does not deal with environmental protection as an annual event, but rather as an ongoing development path, integrated with its future vision 2031 and its international climate commitments.
He pointed out that this year’s celebration comes under the slogan “Restoring the Earth,” which coincides with the UAE’s trends in rehabilitating environmental systems and expanding green areas, in addition to supporting innovation in the fields of energy, water, and the environment and enhancing community participation in adopting sustainable practices.
He explained that the Earth Day Organization (EARTHDAY.ORG) announced that this year’s slogan focuses on highlighting the role of individuals and societies in confronting climate change and reflects popular support for climate action at various levels, pointing out that the official design for 2026 embodies planet Earth in the form of a flower in human hands, in reference to everyone’s responsibility to protect the planet.
He stressed that the UAE should be proud of its strength to preserve its land for future generations, protected from all targeting, at the same time that it works vigorously in the fields of renewable energies and generated technologies, to maintain its position on the list of countries in the world that achieve leadership and environmental sustainability.
