Al Ain, April 22 / WAM / On the first day of the UAE Agricultural Conference and Exhibition 2026, the “Salal” Group, which specializes in the food and agricultural technology sector in the UAE, signed three strategic memorandums of understanding with each of the “Dubai Environment and Climate Change Authority”, the National Initiative to Reduce Food Loss and Waste “Naama” and the “Zayed Al Khair Foundation”.
Sellal signed, with the Dubai Environment and Climate Change Authority, a memorandum of understanding that reflects the two sides’ joint commitment to enhancing sustainable food security and supporting the sustainability of the local agricultural sector through a cooperative framework that aims to establish an integrated support system for local farmers, by identifying and registering qualified farmers, and providing them with the necessary technical and guidance support, in addition to facilitating the access of their products to local markets, to ensure the continuity of supplies of local products and enhance their competitiveness.
The cooperation also aims to explore the challenges facing the local agricultural sector, and develop the necessary recommendations and techniques to maintain the sustainability of food production, in a way that supports the food security system and raises the efficiency of the sector in the long term. The agreement also included launching initiatives that contribute to reducing operational costs for farmers, facilitating the access of their products to markets, and enhancing field and laboratory research, in a way that supports the development of practical and sustainable mechanisms that improve local agricultural production.
The strategic partnership contributes to accelerating digital transformation and the development of smart services related to the agricultural sector, ensuring the improvement of production, supply and marketing processes, enabling farmers to benefit from advanced technology, and supporting the building of a more flexible, efficient and sustainable agricultural system in the Emirate of Dubai.
The “Salal” Group also signed a memorandum of understanding with “Naama”, the National Initiative to Reduce Food Loss and Waste. The partnership aims to reduce food loss and waste in the agricultural food sector, by providing accurate data and insights that contribute to developing and tracking food loss and waste indicators in the UAE, and supporting the ambitious national endeavors aimed at reducing them.
The memorandum stipulates the active participation of the “Salal” group in various “Naama” programs, including food rescue initiatives and awareness campaigns on its importance, in addition to providing practical insights in line with best practices. In return, Sellal will work to benefit from Naama’s operational processes in measuring and sharing food loss and waste data, integrating innovative technologies, and supporting logistics and infrastructure services that contribute to reducing food waste. This strategic alliance confirms Sellal’s commitment to enhancing the sustainability and efficiency of the food system in the UAE.
Sellal Group also signed a memorandum of understanding with the Zayed Al Khair Foundation to establish a sustainable agricultural system based on innovation, knowledge and qualitative partnerships, in a way that enhances food security and increases the ability of societies to face future challenges. Areas of cooperation include supporting and qualifying national competencies in agricultural technology, engaging students in applied educational experiences, developing innovative solutions through Sellal’s Innovation Oasis, in addition to implementing external agricultural projects and integrated programs to enable farmers to adopt modern practices that contribute to raising productivity, improving quality, and sustaining production.

The session discussed the importance of benefiting from the capabilities of artificial intelligence in developing practical practices that serve farmers and decision makers, as Dr. Shamal participated in a detailed discussion on ways to transform laboratory research into effective field applications, highlighting the pivotal role of this technology in transferring innovation from universities and research centers to the agricultural reality in the UAE.
