"Dubai roads": 20% decrease in traffic truck accidents during 2025

DUBAI, 23 APRIL / WAM / The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority announced that it has achieved a 20% reduction in truck traffic accidents in the Emirate of Dubai, during the year 2025, as a result of its efforts to enhance the traffic safety system and develop the infrastructure and legislation regulating the logistical transport sector, to support its competitiveness and the sustainability of its business in accordance with the highest safety standards.

In this regard, the Authority implemented three specific initiatives in the truck sector, within the framework of enhancing traffic safety and raising the efficiency of the logistical transport sector, which is one of the vital pillars supporting economic growth and enhancing the emirate’s competitiveness, due to its pivotal role in the smooth movement of goods and the efficiency of supply chains.

The Authority’s initiatives focused on addressing operational challenges and raising safety levels proactively, and included installing rear barriers on trucks to reduce serious collision accidents and raise levels of protection for road users, and providing specialized programs for development and training targeting drivers and operators, to raise their technical and behavioral competence and adherence to best operational practices, in addition to strengthening the rapid response system to prevent stalled trucks from being parked on main roads, and towing them immediately, which contributes to the smooth flow of traffic and reducing the occurrence of accidents.

The Authority organized more than 30 awareness campaigns targeting shipping companies and truck drivers during the year 2025, as part of efforts to enhance traffic safety and raise the level of awareness among road users, with the aim of reducing wrong behavior, which is one of the most prominent causes of road accidents.

The campaigns focused on educating about the negative phenomena associated with driving, such as sudden deviation, not leaving a sufficient safety distance, not giving way to other vehicles, and reversing without paying attention, and the resulting direct dangers to traffic safety and the smooth flow of movement.

The Authority has allocated 14 truck rest stops, distributed over six vital locations, strategic streets and logistics cities, within the framework of enhancing traffic flow and raising safety levels on the road network.

These efforts led to a reduction in the issuance of movement permits during lockdown times by 70% in 2025 compared to 2024, and thus a higher level of compliance with the new regulatory measures.
