“Shahin” wins the Monaco International Rugby Sevens silver medal

The Shaheen team of the Emirates Rugby Federation won second place and the silver medal in the Monaco International Rugby Sevens Championship, which was hosted by Monaco, after losing in the final match to the French champion Seventies team with a score of 14-35. The team concluded a distinguished participation during which it presented strong and honorable levels.
The Shaheen team had succeeded in topping the second group in the preliminary round after achieving three consecutive victories, as it opened its campaign by defeating the Monaco team with a score of 14-12, then defeated the Sevens Lands team with a score of 26-17, before concluding its matches by defeating the Wambatz team with a score of 33-17, to take the lead in the second group and qualify for the final match, according to the tournament system that awards the qualification card to the winner of each group.
The team was led in the tournament by the technical staff led by Khaldoun Al Maleh, assistant coach Youssef Shaker, and team manager Nizar Mahran, where the technical staff played a prominent role in preparing the players technically and physically throughout the tournament competitions.
Mohammed Sultan Al Zaabi, Secretary General of the Emirates Rugby Federation, confirmed that the Monaco International Championship was at a very strong technical level, and witnessed fierce competition between all participating teams, which gave Shaheen’s team an important opportunity to interact and gain more experience against different schools in the game of rugby. He added that the team’s success in winning all the first-round matches and deservedly topping its group reflects the great amount of work that took place during the last period, the extent of the players’ physical and technical readiness, in addition to the fighting spirit and discipline on the field.
