Case No. 16 hits Zamalek at a dangerous time

Today, Wednesday, the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) announced a new penalty to suspend registration in Zamalek Club, due to issues related to late financial dues, bringing the number of cases registered against the club to 16 cases, according to the Egyptian “Cairo 24” website.

The punishment comes at a very difficult time for the Egyptian club, which is competing strongly for the league title and the African Confederation Cup, as it needs one point from the final round of the tournament to win the local crown, while the first leg of the final round with its host USM Algiers, Algeria, next Saturday.

The latest Zamalek case is due to late dues to the Oleksandria club, related to the third installment of the team’s star Juan Bezerra’s deal, after the club’s delay in payment. Case No. 16 joins a series of previous cases for non-payment of previous dues to stars who wore the white shirt, led by: Tunisian player Ferjani Sassi, Portuguese coach Jose Gomez, and Swiss Christian Gross, in addition to clubs such as Saint-Etienne and Charleroi of France.

It is noteworthy that the dues are estimated at millions of dollars, at a time when Zamalek is suffering from a stifling financial crisis.
