"Ajman Tourism" Consolidating the emirate’s position as a leading destination for recreational and sports tourism

Ajman, 9 May / WAM / The Ajman Department of Tourism, Culture and Media continues to consolidate the emirate’s position as a leading destination for recreational and sports tourism by building strategic international partnerships and organizing and hosting the most prestigious international events, in line with Ajman Vision 2030 and the emirate’s trends towards diversifying the tourism sector.

As part of its efforts to enhance the emirate’s position as a leading destination for sports tourism, the department entered into a strategic partnership with the company “WPSL Services” with the aim of attracting a series of international golf tournaments and events to the emirate on the sidelines of the annual WAGI Pairs Championship, which was held yesterday at the Al Zorah Golf and Yacht Club, sponsored by the Department of Tourism, Culture and Media in Ajman.

This step comes in the context of supporting Ajman’s efforts towards diversifying the tourism product and enhancing its presence on the global sports tourism map.

This partnership supports the achievement of the strategic objectives of the Emirate of Ajman aimed at enhancing the emirate’s competitiveness as a leading tourist destination, attracting visitors looking for luxurious entertainment experiences, and advancing sustainable tourism growth by providing sports and entertainment events according to the highest quality standards. It also highlights the strategic role of the Al Zorah Golf and Yacht Club as one of the most prominent golf destinations overlooking the waterfront in the Emirates, which hosted the annual “WAGI Pairs” tournament yesterday.

This cooperation is of particular importance in light of the rapid growth witnessed by the sports tourism sector globally, as many destinations tend to employ international sporting events and interactive travel experiences as effective tools. To attract high-income visitors and enhance the economic returns of the tourism sector.

In light of this global transformation, golf tourism has emerged as one of the fastest growing sectors, driven by increasing demand for luxury hospitality, health and wellness experiences, and recreational activities associated with tourist destinations.

The tournament will host an elite group of amateur golfers from across the UAE. To compete for the opportunity to represent the country in the 2026 World Amateur Golf Championship, which is held in Malaysia and brings together participants from more than 40 countries around the world.

His Excellency Mahmoud Khalil Al Hashemi, Director General of the Department of Tourism, Culture and Information in Ajman, said: This partnership reflects Ajman’s continued commitment to supporting the diversification of the tourism sector and enhancing the emirate’s position as a leading destination for leisure and sports tourism, in harmony with Ajman Vision 2030.

He added: Golf tourism represents one of the promising sectors that contributes to the development of the visitor-based economy, enhancing the presence and tourist status of the destination and the long-term sustainability of tourism. Through these qualitative partnerships, we are moving confidently towards consolidating Ajman’s position as an ideal destination for international sporting events and exceptional tourism experiences.

Abdullah Al Obaidli, Director of Events at the Department of Tourism, Culture and Media in Ajman, said that organizing and hosting such international tournaments reflects the pivotal role played by the department in highlighting the Emirate of Ajman as an integrated tourist and sports destination, pointing out that the emirate possesses unique elements that combine modern sports facilities and various tourism services that contribute to attracting more visitors.

He stressed that these events are not limited to the sports aspect only, but rather represent an important opportunity to introduce participants and visitors to the nature and beauty of the Emirate of Ajman, and its coastal destinations, tourist and cultural attractions, in addition to the high-end hospitality facilities, which enhances the emirate’s position on the sports tourism map regionally and globally.

On the sidelines of the tournament, the participants expressed their great admiration for the good organization and professional level of the tournament, stressing that the Al Zorah Golf and Yacht Club represents a qualitative addition to the sport of golf in the country and the region.

Dr. Peter Dr. Arvin, one of the participating amateur golfers, said: This tournament is one of the best tournaments we have participated in in terms of organization and precision in details, and the Emirate of Ajman has wonderful tourism elements that make the experience complete, both athletically and recreationally.

While another participant confirmed that the beauty of the tournament location and the available services contributed to the success of the event, he said: Al-Zawraa Club is characterized by world-class facilities and excellent services, and the place combines tranquility and picturesque coastal nature, and this gives the players a unique and unrepeatable experience.

He added: What distinguishes Ajman is that it is a convenient and close tourist destination, and provides multiple options for accommodation, services and tourist activities, and this makes it suitable for hosting major international tournaments in the future.

This partnership is in line with the objectives of Ajman Vision 2030, which aims to diversify the tourism sector and support sustainable economic development, by launching initiatives that contribute to enhancing the emirate’s presence as a tourist destination, attracting segments of high-value visitors, and consolidating Ajman’s position on the global tourism map.
