A new development in Pakistan against the backdrop of the bloody suicide attack

A suicide bomber detonated a car bomb at a checkpoint in northwestern Pakistan on Saturday, before gunmen opened fire on police, killing at least 15 people, according to officials.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement that it summoned the Afghan charge d’affaires and informed him that "A detailed investigation into the incident, along with the evidence collected and technical intelligence, indicates that the attack was orchestrated by terrorists based in Afghanistan."

A senior administrative official in Bannu, the area near the Afghan border where the attack took place, said: "During the attack, the militants used small drones in addition to heavy weapons"

The official, requesting that his name not be revealed, added that more than a hundred militants participated in the attack.

The American embassy in Islamabad said in a post on the X platform: "Deeply saddened by the tragic events in Bannu"

The expansion of violence

She added that "Pakistani citizens deserve security, peace and a future not burdened by the scourge of terrorist violence"

In recent years, Bannu has witnessed increasing militant activity, in light of the expansion of violence in the Pakistani border areas.

The Taliban government in Afghanistan has repeatedly denied Pakistan’s accusations that Afghan territory constitutes a safe haven for militants.

The tense relationship between the two neighboring countries has deteriorated in recent months, leading to bloody armed confrontations, which included Pakistani air strikes on cities in Afghanistan.
