Al-Wasl team officially clinched third place in the professional football league standings, after overturning its deficit to a valuable 2-1 victory over its host Al-Jazira, in the confrontation that brought together the two teams on Monday evening at Mohammed bin Zayed Stadium, in the presence of about 2,000 spectators.
The hosts benefited from friendly fire to open the scoring, after the ball collided with Al Wasl defender Rilson Silva and went into the net in the 36th minute, so Al Jazira ended the first half with a goal lead.
The “Emperor” waited until the second half to return to the atmosphere of the match, after Siaka Sidi Bey succeeded in equalizing in the 64th minute, before the star Fabio Lima snatched the fatal winning goal in the 89th minute, giving his team three valuable points that confirmed its superiority in the struggle for third place.
With this result, Al-Wasl raised its score to 45 points in third place, officially clinching its position before the round of the end of the season, while Al-Jazira’s score froze at 41 points in fourth place, receiving a strong blow in the race for qualifying places for external participation.
