"Federal Nuclear Regulation"The electrical generator fire accident outside the Barakah station fence did not affect its safety or the readiness of its basic systems

Abu Dhabi, 17 May / WAM / The Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation confirmed that it is continuing to monitor the incident of a fire breaking out in an electric generator located outside the internal fence of the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant in the Al Dhafra region, as a result of a drone attack.
The Authority also confirmed in a statement that the accident did not affect the safety of the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant or the readiness of its basic systems, and that no leakage of radioactive materials occurred, and that radiation safety levels are still within normal levels, and there is no danger to the public or the environment… and no injuries were recorded as a result of the accident.
The Authority continues to coordinate closely with the station operator and the relevant national authorities to verify all aspects of the incident and ensure the continued safety and readiness of the station’s systems.
As part of its independent oversight role, the Authority continues to evaluate the incident in accordance with approved national procedures and monitor the radiation situation and the condition of the station on an ongoing basis.
The Barakah Nuclear Power Plant has been designed, licensed and operated in accordance with the highest international standards for nuclear safety and security. The plant includes multiple, independent layers of protection in all aspects of design and operation to ensure safe and secure production of clean electricity under various conditions.
Protecting the public, workers and the environment remains the top priority of the Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation, which will continue to exercise its independent oversight role to ensure the continued safe and secure operation of the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant.
