Knight Marzouki wins the Tour title "Lisbon sail" International Show Jumping
Lisbon, May 25 / WAM / Knight Omar Abdulaziz Al Marzouqi was crowned champion of the “Sail” round of the Lisbon International Championship, three-star category.
Al-Marzouqi, riding the horse “Shako Bay”, succeeded in completing the two team rounds without error over the 1.50-meter hurdles, and led the UAE national team to sixth place, in the first European Nations Championships qualifying for the 2026 World Championship.
The championship competitions for teams and individuals were organized during the period from May 21 to 24 on outdoor grass fields, as part of the Al Sheraa Stables’ European Summer Participation Series, under the patronage of Sheikha Fatima bint Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of the Fatima Bint Mubarak Women’s Sports Academy, President of the Abu Dhabi Ladies Club and Al Ain Ladies Club, owner and founder of Al Sheraa Stables.
The sailing team included the riders Omar Abdulaziz Al Marzouqi riding the horse “Shako Bay” (12 years old), Humaid Abdullah Al Muhairi with the horse “Funchesty” (12 years old), Abdullah Mohammed Al Marri and the horse “BBS Mqriqur” (14 years old), and the knight Salem Ahmed Al Suwaidi with the horse “Flon Flon” (11 years old).
The sailing team finished its participation in sixth place out of 10 teams, whose results were respectively: Spain, South Africa, France, Italy, Switzerland, the Emirates, Britain, Portugal, America, and Brazil.
Al Marzouqi excelled with “Shako Bay”, who demonstrated his high abilities, in the Grand Prix competition over the 1.55 meter hurdles, which witnessed the completion of only two riders in the distinction round without error out of five riders who entered it, and Al Marzouqi completed it, recording 38.43 seconds, and was crowned with the championship title and prize.
The second place award was won by the French rider Edward Chaufi, finishing the distinction with the mare “Ziamia de Labon Z” (14 years old), with a time of 39.42 seconds, and third place was awarded to the Portuguese jockey Duart Seabra with the horse “Dorados 2” (13 years old), with a time of distinction of 40.15 seconds, with a score of 4 penalty points.
Sami Kettle, Director of Global Operations at Al Sheraa, said that Al Marzouqi and Shaco Bay’s victory, after an exceptional performance, embodies his talent, in addition to the partnership he built with Shaco Bay, explaining that the presence of an Emirati rider at the top in this historic European field is a proud moment for Emirati equestrian sports.
He stressed that the victory carries additional importance in light of Al Sheraa’s commitment to the future of equestrian sports in Portugal, which was announced in November 2025, with a five-year agreement to return the historic Nations Cup to Lisbon after a three-year hiatus, confirming the vision of Sheikha Fatima bint Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan in supporting ancient events in various parts of Europe.
For his part, Al Marzouqi described the participation in the Lisbon Championship as historic, because she is almost 100 years old, with the support and guidance of Sheikha Fatima bint Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan, to be crowned with this great title after reaching the 1.55 meters distinction round, without error, which represents a strong motivation towards more excellence and achievements in the name of the UAE.
