The UAE wins two gold medals and raises its tally to 5 medals in the Asian Under-20 Athletics Championships

HONG KONG, 30TH MAY/WAM/ Today, the UAE Athletics Team won two new gold medals in the women’s 400m and men’s 200m in the 22nd Asian Under-20 Championship, which is being held in Hong Kong and continues until next June 1, bringing its tally to 5 medals, with 4 gold and a bronze.
Sprinter Maryam Karim won the gold medal in the women’s 400-meter final with a time of 56.93 seconds, achieving her personal best amid strong competition from elite female runners on the continent.
Chen Yu Liu from Chinese Taipei won silver with a time of 59.46 seconds, and Kazakhstani runner Margarita Kosinova came third with a time of 1:01:06 minutes.
The second gold medal came to runner Abdul Quddus Ahmed Ali in the men’s 200 meters final after a distinguished performance in which he finished with a time of 20.85 seconds, achieving a new personal best, despite facing headwinds (-1.6 m/s). The silver was won by the Chinese runner Jinshin Chen with a time of 21.12 seconds, and the bronze went to the Sri Lankan runner Sadio Wimansa Rajakaro, with a time of 21.13 seconds.
Major General Dr. Muhammad Abdullah Al-Murr, President of the Athletics Federation, confirmed that the new achievement is in addition to the distinguished results achieved by the team in the championship until its penultimate day, praising the advanced level of runner Maryam Karim and her ability to lead the race with a distinguished time difference between the participants.
He explained that the runner Abdul Quddus Ahmed Ali imposed his control over the race and deservedly achieved first place, confirming his distinguished position among the most prominent young runners on the Asian continent. He approached the 20.80 second barrier despite the difficult technical conditions of the race.
