Filipino Jacob is a hero "Challenge minds to chess" In Sharjah
Sharjah, June 9 / WAM / The Filipino Austin Jacob was crowned champion of the Minds Challenge Chess Championship for the challengers category, which was organized by the Sharjah Cultural Chess Club, sponsored by the Sharjah Sports Council, with the participation of 10 players representing 8 countries.
Jacob succeeded in clinching the title after collecting 5.5 points from 9 rounds, beating Yemeni Bashir Al-Qadimi, who won the silver medal, while Azerbaijan’s Hamidullahverdi came third and won the bronze medal, after the three were equal with 5.5 points.
Azerbaijani Aslanov Omid came in fourth place with 5 points, ahead of American Eduard Hakobyan, who ranked fifth, while Pavel Shkabenko came in sixth with 4.5 points.
Egyptian Amir Moheb ranked seventh with 4 points, equal to Emirates player Abdul Rahman Al-Taher, who came eighth, while Zambian Sharon Rafael came in ninth place with 3.5 points, equal to Emirates player Safin, who ranked tenth.
The closing ceremony and crowning of the winners was attended by Abdullah Murad Al-Mazmi, member of the club’s board of directors, head of the technical staff and talent sponsorship, director of the tournament, and Dr. Mamoun Saleh Al-Daros, executive director of the club, along with a number of personalities, coaches and administrators.
At the conclusion of the tournament, Abdullah Murad Al Mazmi thanked the Sharjah Sports Council for its continuous support for tournaments and sporting events, stressing that this support constitutes an essential foundation for the success of the activities and programs organized by the Sharjah Cultural Chess Club, appreciating the efforts of all participants and organizational staff who contributed to the tournament’s outstanding outcome.
He added that the tournament witnessed close technical levels and strong competitions until the final round, which reflects the quality of the participating players and the importance of such tournaments in providing opportunities for interaction and gaining experience, indicating the aspiration to continue organizing more qualitative events that contribute to developing the game, discovering talents, and refining their abilities.
