The automatic water sprinkler system malfunctioned in the Iraq-Norway match stadium

The stadium’s automatic water sprinkler system malfunctioned between halftime of the Iraqi and Norwegian national football team’s match held on Wednesday morning, as part of the 2026 World Cup finals, at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, USA. A huge burst of water gushed out for several seconds from a sprinkler head that suddenly malfunctioned on the edge of the penalty area in front of the club. While the rest of the sprinklers appeared to be operating normally, officials were forced to turn off the entire system to prevent further damage caused by the malfunctioning sprinkler, which caused the surrounding grass on the field to change color. Maintenance workers rushed to address the defect, using buckets and equipment intended to drain the water and distribute it to other parts of the stadium, where the technical crews succeeded in returning the damaged area to its natural state.
