Yamal scores against Saudi Arabia and enters a historic list behind Pele

Lamine Yamal, the Barcelona star, scored the first goal for the Spanish national team in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, during the match against Saudi Arabia, today, Sunday, in the second round of the group stage.

Yamal’s goal gave Spain the lead against the Saudi team, after the Spanish team had begun its tournament campaign with a goalless draw with Cape Verde in the first round.

With this goal, Yamal entered a historic list in the World Cup, after he became the second youngest player to open his first participation in the World Cup with a goal, at the age of 18 years, behind the Brazilian legend Pele, who scored in his first match in the World Cup in 1958 against Wales, and he was 17 years old at the time.

Yamal is one of the most prominent elements that coach Luis de la Fuente is counting on in the Spain squad, hoping to compete for the world title for the second time in the team’s history, after its first victory in 2010.
