Fathi and Abdel Majeed are absent from the confrontation between Egypt and Iran

Egyptian national team director Ibrahim Hassan confirmed that the duo, Hamdy Fathi and Hossam Abdel Majeed, were injured and absent from facing Iran on Friday, in the third and final round of the Group 7 competitions for the 2026 World Cup, according to what he told Agence France-Presse.

Hassan said, “Fathi suffered a strain in his back muscle and will be absent for a week, so he will not participate against Iran.” Meanwhile, Abdel Majeed suffered a concussion that forced him to leave the field.

He added, “(Abdel Majeed) is completely healthy, but according to the medical protocol, he must not participate for at least 5 days, so he will also miss the next match.”

Fathi left the field in the 41st minute of the match against New Zealand, in which the “Pharaohs” achieved their first victory (3-1) in the history of their participation in the World Cup finals.

In the ninth minute of stoppage time, Abdel Majeed came off after falling to the ground and was replaced by Mohamed Abdel Moneim.

Egypt leads the group with four points, two points ahead of Iran and Belgium, and three ahead of New Zealand, before the final third round.
