After breaking the foot of a Canadian player, FIFA suspends Qatari player Assem Madibo for 5 matches

FIFA announced today, Wednesday, that Qatar national team midfielder Assem Madibo has been suspended for five matches after receiving a red card for a violent tackle that led to a broken foot of Canadian midfielder Ismail Koné.
Qatar lost 6-0 to Canada in its second match in the second group of the World Cup group stage, which Kony left after breaking his leg during a rough intervention by Madibo in the second half.
The FIFA Disciplinary Committee imposed a five-match suspension for a serious violation, a decision subject to appeal before the FIFA Appeals Committee.
Kony underwent surgery, and the Qatar Football Association said that Madibo and the Qatari Minister of Sports visited him in the hospital to check on his health condition.
Qatar will play its final match in the group stage against Bosnia and Herzegovina today, Wednesday, while Canada, one of the three host countries of the tournament, will meet Switzerland.
