Abu Dhabi continues to strengthen its health leadership through a qualitative expansion of specialized rehabilitation services
ABU DHABI, 27 JUNE / WAM / Abu Dhabi continues to consolidate its position as a regional and global center for advanced health care, through the development of specialized medical infrastructure that keeps pace with the emirate’s goals in improving the quality of health services and promoting medical tourism. The Specialized Rehabilitation Hospital, affiliated with Capital Health, announced the laying of the foundation stone for a major expansion project that will qualify it to become the largest integrated rehabilitation hospital in the Emirates, with the new facility to begin its operations by the end of 2028.
The foundation stone laying ceremony was witnessed by His Excellency Dr. Fayza Al Yafei, Executive Director of the Healthcare Quality Sector at the Department of Health in Abu Dhabi, His Excellency Abu Bakr Al Khouri, CEO of Abu Dhabi Capital Group, Khalifa Al Mazrouei, Chief Investment Officer of Abu Dhabi Capital Group, and Dr. Meshal Al Qasimi, CEO of the Specialized Rehabilitation Hospital and Health Shield Medical Center, along with members of the senior management and hospital staff.
The project embodies Abu Dhabi’s efforts to strengthen the specialized health care system and expand its capabilities in the field of medical rehabilitation, by establishing an advanced facility next to the hospital’s current building, which includes inpatient rehabilitation services, outpatient specialized clinics, orthopedic and musculoskeletal care, neurosciences, sports medicine, physical medicine, and cardiac rehabilitation, within an integrated care model that allows the provision of therapeutic and rehabilitative services under one roof.
His Excellency Abu Bakr Al Khouri said that investment in the health care sector plays a pivotal role in enhancing the depth, flexibility, and readiness of the health system for the future, stressing that the expansion of the Specialized Rehabilitation Hospital reflects confidence in Abu Dhabi’s vision in the field of specialized health care, and the commitment to supporting institutions capable of establishing excellence, maintaining complex care services within the UAE, and achieving sustainable value for patients and society.
Dr. Meshal Al Qasimi, CEO of the Specialized Rehabilitation Hospital and Health Shield Medical Center, stressed that the organization’s focus for this year under the slogan “Growth through Learning” constitutes the basis from which it will implement this expansion, by benefiting from the expertise, therapeutic trips, experiences of families, and the knowledge of the multidisciplinary team to develop more efficient systems and more responsive care to patients’ needs.
Khalifa Al Mazrouei said that combining advanced surgeries, external specialized services, therapeutic services, and rehabilitation programs within an integrated environment creates a health platform that supports the priorities of the national health sector and enhances Abu Dhabi’s ambitions in the field of medical tourism.
It is expected that the expansion work will be completed and begin operation by the end of 2028, increasing the hospital’s capacity to more than 230 internal rehabilitation beds, more than 30 clinics and outpatient treatment rooms, and about 12 rehabilitation halls in the Bait Al Qudra Sports Hall, making it the largest integrated rehabilitation hospital in the Emirates, and containing the largest number of internal rehabilitation beds, external rehabilitation clinics, and rehabilitation halls under one roof in the country.
The new facility will include specialized outpatient services in the fields of neurology, sports medicine, physical medicine, and cardiac rehabilitation for children and adults. The project also includes the establishment of modern operating rooms, including the “Operating Room of the Future,” to support orthopedic and musculoskeletal surgeries, directly linked to rehabilitation programs.
