This came in conjunction with the signing of the WHO Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean and the Global Institute for the Elimination of Infectious Diseases a partnership agreement aimed at supporting programs to eliminate communicable diseases in countries of the region, by employing technical support, incentive financing, and global expertise, in a way that strengthens sustainable health systems and contributes to the development of applicable models in various parts of the region. Innovative Solutions
Dr. Hanan Balkhi said: "The challenges we face in the Eastern Mediterranean Region require innovative, cross-border solutions and strong institutional partnerships. This agreement helps us accelerate the implementation of the multi-disease elimination framework, taking advantage of the latest technologies and improved diagnostic methods, and enabling countries to identify and eliminate infectious disease threats that hinder the health of communities and economic growth."
The partnership aims to strengthen integrated disease surveillance systems, support innovation and Digital transformation in public health, by building national capabilities in the use of artificial intelligence and advanced technologies, in a way that raises the efficiency of the health response and enhances the readiness of health systems.
Multiple Diseases
The agreement also supports the new initiative launched by the World Health Organization’s Regional Office to Eliminate Multiple Diseases, which aims to accelerate the elimination of communicable diseases, with a focus in its first phase on 14 diseases that represent a major health burden, by strengthening the functions of the health system, integrating health services, and coordinating surveillance work between programs. Different, while maintaining verification indicators for each disease.
The agreement stressed the importance of strengthening polio virus surveillance efforts, and supporting countries endemic to the disease and countries free of it to maintain the necessary technical and regulatory readiness to achieve and sustain polio-free status.

The two sides stressed that the agreement stems from a common vision to strengthen public health systems, support regional health security, and develop new areas of cooperation that contribute to strengthening global efforts aimed at eliminating preventable infectious diseases, and improving the ability of countries in the Eastern Mediterranean region to face future health challenges.
