The first Etihad Rail passenger flight arrives from Fujairah to Abu Dhabi
Abu Dhabi, June 30 / WAM / The first passenger train service as part of the passenger transport services on the Etihad Rail network arrived in Abu Dhabi today, in a step that constitutes a qualitative shift in the national transport system in the country.
The first preliminary trip started from Fujairah station and arrived at Mohammed bin Zayed City station in Abu Dhabi, in a festive atmosphere that reflected the importance of this historical event, amid wide interaction from passengers who expressed their pride in participating in the first trip, as the train provided them with a modern transportation experience that combines speed, comfort and reliability.
The preliminary operation represents the beginning of a new phase in the journey of the national railway network, with passenger transport services expanding as of next September 30 to include Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Al Dhaid and Fujairah, then extending to stations in the Al Dhafra region in December 2026, and to Sharjah in March 2027.
Etihad Rail Company was established in 2009 to develop and operate the national railway network, which extends for about 900 kilometers and connects cities, ports and industrial centers throughout the country, as part of the “50 Projects”, which contributes to supporting economic diversification and sustainable development, enhancing the efficiency of supply chains and reducing carbon emissions.
The train takes 105 minutes to cover the distance between Abu Dhabi and Fujairah, with a maximum speed of 200 kilometers per hour, and accommodates up to 400 passengers per trip, with expectations that the total number of passengers will reach about 10 million passengers annually when the network is fully operational.
The service offers two travel classes, “Comfort Class” and “Premium Class,” with benefits that include reserved seats, free Wi-Fi, device charging ports, and luggage spaces, in addition to multiple ticket options to suit various travellers’ needs, while introductory prices for the Abu Dhabi – Fujairah route start at 55 dirhams for the comfort class and 120 dirhams for the premium class.
