We achieved the dream of 47 million Spaniards by winning the World Cup title

Spain national team coach Luis de la Fuente expressed his great happiness at winning the 2026 World Cup title with a 1-0 victory in the final match over Argentina after an extension to extra time.
“The winning goal is the least important at the moment. All I want is to celebrate the championship cup,” De La Fuente said via the Catalan newspaper Mundo Deportivo.
He added, “We have achieved the dream of 47 million Spaniards on the field. This title counts for everyone.”
He continued, “We clinched the title after a long marathon, not a speed race. Achievements go to those who deserve them most, so we worked very hard and succeeded in maintaining our energy.”
De La Fuente concluded, “I’m not thinking about anyone right now, but my mind is completely clear. I just want to raise the championship cup and celebrate it with my family.”
The Spanish national team achieved the second title in its history after winning the first in 2010 in South Africa after winning 1-0 in the final match over the Netherlands.
As for the Argentine national team, its dreams of winning a second title in a row and the fourth in its history have been dashed after three titles in 1978, 1986 and 2022.
