At the age of 59.. “King Kazu” scores his first goal in 4 years

Japanese football star, Kazuyoshi Miura, scored his first goal in an official match in about four years, when he scored at the age of 59 in the match in which Fukushima United defeated Iwaki Furukawa’s team 7-0, to qualify for the next round of the Emperor’s Cup, the day before yesterday.

Miura, known as “King Kazuo,” scored his goal in the 52nd minute to make the score 5-0 for Fukushima, capping off a distinguished run inside the penalty area with a shot from the first touch after a pass from one of his teammates. He was 59 years and 149 days old.

The goal sparked celebrations among his teammates on the field and on the bench, before the veteran striker was substituted three minutes later.

This is Miura’s first goal in an official match since November 2022, when he scored a goal for the Suzuka PG team, currently known as Atletico Suzuka, in a match the team lost to FC Osaka in the Japanese League.

The former Japanese international is preparing to play his 42nd professional season (a record), after extending his loan period with Fukushima United, the competitor in the third division, until June 2027.

Miura joined the club from Yokohama in December, and made six appearances for Fukushima during the shortened 2026 season.

Miura scored 55 goals in 89 matches with Japan, after he participated for the first time with his country’s national team in 1990, but he was excluded from the team’s squad for his first World Cup participation in 1998 before retiring internationally in 2000.
