An official source in the Ministry of Interior revealed the seizure of a bee importing establishment that smuggles drugs into the Kingdom, and the arrest of its members.
He explained that 4 expatriates of Egyptian nationality and a citizen were arrested, and their roles were to import beehives, hide amphetamine tablets inside them, ship them to the Kingdom, transport them in a refrigerator vehicle, and promote and trade them.

Risks of amphetamine addiction

A scientific study on the harms of drugs at King Abdulaziz University, represented by the College of Applied Medical Sciences, has linked amphetamine addiction to Alzheimer’s disease at an early age.

The study, which was conducted on a number of amphetamine addicts at one of Al Amal Psychiatric Hospitals, aged between 23 and 40 years, aimed to understand how amphetamine addiction is linked to Alzheimer’s disease at an earlier age than is usual.

The study’s author, Associate Professor of Neurosciences, Head of the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Unit at King Abdulaziz University, Dr. Aziza bint Rashid Al-Rafi’ah, explained that the study was conducted by examining a number of inflammatory biomarkers represented by the alpha-antikymotrypsin protein, one of the components of senile plaques found in the brains of patients who… They suffer from Alzheimer’s disease, and the PEDF protein, which is one of the biomarkers of the disease, as its level is higher than normal, and the third indicator is the chemokine MIP. Its level increases only in microvessels derived from the brains of Alzheimer’s patients.
