“Pomak” weddings only in winter

The residents of the Bulgarian village of Repnovo, which is inhabited by a Muslim majority, are famous for holding weddings only during the winter, unlike many European villages and towns that organize weddings on warm summer days.
Finally, Sylvie Kisilova (21 years old), a bride from the Muslim minority in the country called the “Pomak” people, celebrated her wedding with her groom, Kadri Petarev (23 years old), where they held a wedding attended by most of the villagers.
The Pomak Muslim minority lives in Bulgaria, northeastern Greece, and northwestern Türkiye.
The Bulgarian government officially calls the Pomak people “Bulgarian Muslims,” who are distinguished by a rich and diverse culture and traditions, and their language is only oral and not written, which leaves their history in the shadows unknown to the world.
