Liverpool is angry… Tottenham won illegally

Young Swede Lukas Bergvall scored his first goal with Tottenham Hotspur in a dramatic way and led his team to victory in the first leg of the semi-final of the League Cup yesterday, Wednesday, but Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk believes that he should have left the field.

The 18-year-old player received a yellow card in the 68th minute and escaped a second warning due to a strong challenge with Kostas Tsimikas moments before he scored the goal that won his team 1-0.

Liverpool were angry, especially since Tsimikas was still off the field when Bergvall fired his powerful shot past Alisson.

“Bergvall fully deserved a second yellow card,” Van Dijk said. He scored the winning goal right after that… The referee made a mistake in my opinion and I told him so. Everyone on both sides of the pitch knew he should have received a yellow card. There was an assistant referee, a fourth official, a video assistant referee and a match referee, and he did not receive a second yellow card. “I’m not saying this is the reason we lost, but it was a defining moment in the match.”

Liverpool tasted defeat for only the second time since coach Arne Sloat took over, bringing a streak of 24 matches without losing in all competitions to an end at this point, although the defending champion still has a good chance to tip the scales in his favor in the return match, which he will host at Anfield next month.

Although he accepted defeat, Slott also insisted that Bergvall should have been fired.

The Dutchman said about referee Stuart Attwell, “The decision he made had a huge impact on the outcome of the match tonight.” There’s not much I can say about that. The fourth official told me why he thought it was not the second yellow card and he probably heard that from the referee. “I never like losing, but fortunately we have a return match to make up for it.”
