The UAE calls for strengthening Asian parliamentary cooperation to build a better future

Baghdad, January 11 / WAM / The UAE called for strengthening Asian parliamentary cooperation by developing policies that encourage equality and justice, and ensure an environment that allows effective contribution to building a better future.

This came during the participation of His Excellency Dr. Nidal Muhammad Al-Taniji, member of the Parliamentary Division Group of the Federal National Council in the Asian Parliamentary Assembly, in the meeting of the Standing Committee on Political Affairs in the Assembly, which was hosted by the Iraqi capital, “Baghdad,” and discussed the committee’s draft resolutions on the topics: good governance and sovereignty. Law and Judicial Empowerment, Good Parliamentary Practices, Building Prosperity in Asia through Friendship and Cooperation, Asian Parliaments and Governments Together for Prosperity in Asia, Asian Parliaments’ Unwavering Support for the Palestinian People, Consistent Development through Democracy, and strengthen cooperation among members of the APA to protect and promote multilateralism.

In the intervention of the Parliamentary Division on the draft resolutions, Dr. Nidal Al-Taniji stressed the importance of the role of the two parliaments in devoting efforts to the advancement of societies through joint cooperation between the legislative councils, by developing policies that encourage equality and justice, and ensuring an environment that allows effective contribution to building a better future, with The necessity of full and complete commitment to continuing the work, especially in light of the circumstances the world is witnessing today, in the hope that the discussions at the meeting will be translated into practical steps that enhance joint Asian parliamentary cooperation.

During the meeting, the UAE Parliamentary Division presented its proposals on a draft resolution on coherent development through democracy, emphasizing the importance of women’s participation as one of the most important parties contributing to sustainable development, in light of their assuming leadership positions in order to promote the principle of democracy and gender equality.

The Parliamentary Division also proposed adding an item on a draft resolution on strengthening cooperation among members of the APA to protect and promote multilateralism.

Her Excellency Dr. Nidal Al-Taniji also chaired the coordination meeting of members of the Gulf legislative councils, which was held on the sidelines of the committee meeting, to coordinate on the topics on the agenda of the committee meeting.
