المملكة: 43 cm penetrates the spine.. A medical team saves the life of a resident in Medina

A multidisciplinary medical team from King Salman Medical City and Uhud Hospital in Medina succeeded in performing a rare and complex surgery to save the life of a beneficiary of Arab nationality in his forties, who suffered a serious injury following a fall while performing his work duties.

The Medina Health Council explained that the injured person arrived at the main hospital emergency room and is in critical condition, losing sight in his left eye and suffering from severe bleeding and severe pain, as a result of an iron object 43 cm long and 14 mm wide penetrating the left eye socket, passing through the upper jaw, the bottom of the skull, and the vertebra. First cervical, all the way to the spinal cord canal and the back of the spine.

Urgent aid

The group indicated that the medical teams took the initiative to provide urgent first aid, and coordinated with the civil defense team to cut off part of the metal body to facilitate medical procedures.
Examinations and CT scans showed the complexity of the injury and the seriousness of the metal object that approached the brainstem and other vital parts.

A medical team consisting of eight medical specialties was called, including neurosurgery, spine surgery, maxillofacial surgery, and ophthalmology. Thanks to careful coordination between the medical teams, the surgical operation was carried out successfully, as the metal object was removed gradually and with great professionalism, while preserving the cerebral arteries and brainstem from any damage.

The Health Cluster confirmed that the operation was successful and the injured person completely regained his sight, with a significant improvement in his health condition after completing his treatment program, expressing its thanks to the medical team that showed exceptional efficiency in dealing with this rare condition.
