المملكة: In its first edition, 99 thousand students took Olympiad exams "We rise" today

More than 99,000 students, male and female, from various regions of the Kingdom, take tests today, Sunday, National Science and Mathematics Olympiad “NESMO” in its first edition, within the framework of a national educational competition held in various regions of the Kingdom.

The tests aim to discover talented people in the fields of science and mathematics, develop their scientific abilities, and qualify them to compete in international scientific Olympiads.

Stages of training

The Nesmo Olympics is A pioneering annual national competition, targeting students from the first grade of middle school to the first grade of secondary school, in the disciplines of science, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, and informatics. The competition includes three main stages of training and tests before reaching the national finals, as part of an integrated educational journey that begins from school and reaches the national competitions.

The student’s journey in the “Nismo” Olympiad begins from the school, where each educational institution forms its team in the targeted specializations, and selection and training are carried out by the school coordinator, to compete with other schools in multiple stages at the city and governorate levels, then the administrations Education, all the way to the national finals. Today, the participating students will take the first stage exams, which include the cities and governorates competition during the period from February 8 to 12, 2026, followed by the in-person training stage for cities and governorates, then exams for the general departments of education during the period from April 4 to 9, 2026.

Competitions continue through the third stage, which includes in-person training for public departments of education, and testing for the national team competition during the period from April 25 to 30, 2026, before moving to the final stage, which includes two tests (theoretical and practical) during the period from May 16 to 21, 2026, preceded by an asynchronous training stage through the Olympic Library. The course of the “NESMO” Olympiad concludes with the nomination of distinguished students to join the Mawhiba Program for the International Olympiads during the period 2026-2027, in preparation for preparing and enabling them to participate in international scientific competitions.

Discovering talents among students

The National Science and Mathematics Olympiad “NESMO” aims to expand the circle of research and discovery to accommodate all general education students in the Kingdom, and provide the opportunity for the largest possible segment of students to discover their scientific inclinations and abilities in the fields of science and mathematics. The Olympiad also seeks to localize training in Olympiad sciences in all education departments, and to build a sustainable national training system that contributes to preparing students in accordance with the scientific standards approved in international Olympiads, and to raise the targeted numbers of students participating in Olympiad sciences training.

Nasmo focuses on instilling positive inclinations and trends towards science and mathematics among students, developing a love of exploration and scientific learning, in addition to enriching scientific educational curricula with many issues and competitions that discuss higher-order thinking skills and enhance deep understanding and the ability to analyze and deduce. The Olympiad also aims to develop the spirit of scientific competition among the elements of the educational process, including students, teachers, and educational supervisors, and to promote a positive competitive educational environment that contributes to raising the quality of educational outcomes.

Nesmo also works to enhance confidence in the national ability to compete globally in various scientific fields, and to highlight young Saudi competencies, reflecting the level of scientific progress witnessed by education in the Kingdom. Among the objectives of the Olympiad are also to develop the performance of the largest number of teachers, involve them in training students in Olympiad sciences, and qualify them with the latest scientific and educational methods, which is reflected in the quality of education within schools, and enhances the role of the teacher in discovering and developing scientific talents. The “NESMO” Olympiad is viewed as an integrated national educational experience that contributes to building a broad scientific base, supports the goals of developing education, empowering gifted students, and creating a scientific generation capable of competing in regional and international forums.
