Dubai has maintained its leadership at the top of the city cleanliness index, for the fifth year in a row, according to the Global Cities Strength Index, issued by the Urban Strategies Institute – the Japanese Mori Memorial Foundation. This new global achievement confirms the emirate’s leadership and superiority in global indicators, and consolidates its position as a unique model. Dubai outperformed more than 47 cities around the world, after achieving 100% in the index that measures satisfaction with the cleanliness of cities, within the environment axis, one of the main axes on the basis of which the strength levels of global cities in the index are measured.

This achievement came as a result of the integrated efforts that Dubai Municipality teams continue to make, in cooperation with partners from the government and private sectors, according to comprehensive plans, strategies, programs and projects for the integrated management of waste operations from a technical and operational perspective, with the aim of preserving the general cleanliness of the city and its aesthetic cultural and urban appearance, and in line with The goals of the Dubai Integrated Waste Management Strategy 2041 are to reduce waste production by 18% and divert waste from landfilling by 100% by 2041.

Acting Director General of Dubai Municipality, Eng. The Dubai Municipality’s cleanliness and sustainability system, which works daily without stopping throughout the year to preserve the beauty of Dubai and the sustainability of its cleanliness and environment, consists of an automated fleet that is considered one of the most modern in the world, including 855 vehicles, machinery and equipment with high technical specifications and the most operational efficiency.

Dubai Municipality has an effective operational system and daily programs to follow up on cleaning operations. Its scope of work includes: main and highway roads with a length of 2,400 km, and investment areas with an area of ​​1,419 square kilometres, in addition to monitoring the cleanliness of water canals and creeks with a length of 33.4 km, residential, industrial and desert areas, and markets, and monitoring means of transportation. Waste storage and maintenance. The programs also include following up on the treatment of hazardous and medical waste, and implementing community electronic services, such as the home furniture disposal service, and monitoring and removing vehicles.
