With Salah’s position ambiguous… Liverpool pounces on the Newcastle star

The future of Egyptian international Mohamed Salah with Liverpool FC continues to raise widespread controversy, casting a shadow on the transfer market with increasing reports about candidates to succeed him in the event of his departure next summer.
Although Salah extended his contract in April 2025 to remain with the Reds until the summer of 2027, speculation still indicates the possibility of him moving to the Saudi Professional League in the Mercato next summer, especially in light of the uncertainty surrounding his final position.
As part of its search for potential alternatives, the Liverpool management put several names on its table, especially after the loss of the deal for Ghanaian Antoine Semenyu, who officially moved to the ranks of Manchester City last January (2026).
Media reports stated that Liverpool had returned to interest in Newcastle United star, English international Anthony Gordon, who had been a target for the club in previous periods.
Liverpool knows the English winger well; Gordon previously spent a short period in the club’s academy in 2012, before leaving and later joining neighbors and traditional rivals Everton.
Gordon (24 years old) has been shining in the MacBayes shirt since joining them in 2023. He participated in more than 130 matches, during which he scored 31 goals and made 21 assists.
On the international level, the English star stood out remarkably during the England U-21 team winning the 2023 European Championship, winning the tournament’s best player award. He also played 12 matches with the first team, scoring one goal.
