The Israeli Chief of Staff resigns due to the “October 7 failure”

On Tuesday, Israeli Army Chief of Staff Herzl Halevy announced his resignation from his position due to “failures related to the Hamas attack on southern Israel on October 7, 2023.”
“Under my leadership, the IDF has failed in its mission to protect the citizens of Israel,” Halevy wrote in his resignation letter to Defense Minister Yisrael Katz.
This comes days after the announcement of an agreement to stop fighting between Israel and Hamas in Gaza, and the start of the process of exchanging hostages and detainees.
On November 5, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced the dismissal of Defense Minister Yoav Galant from his position. Netanyahu appointed Israel Katz to succeed Gallant.
