المملكة: “Environment” calls for benefiting from customs exemption for agricultural production inputs

The Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture urged companies in the private sector to benefit from the Council of Ministers’ decision requiring the state to bear customs duties on agricultural production inputs.
She expressed her concern about the lack of response from the commercial sector to this initiative, stressing the importance of seizing this opportunity to support local production and achieve food security.
The Cabinet decision, issued on February 6, 2024, includes all inputs to agricultural, livestock and fishery production, in addition to inputs for establishing agricultural and animal production factories outside industrial sites.

Increase production

This decision aims to reduce the burden on local farmers and enable them to increase their production and competitiveness in the market, which contributes to reducing dependence on imports and securing food for the population.
The Ministry indicated, in a circular to the Federation of Saudi Chambers, the need for approval from the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture before the goods arrive at the customs office.
She stressed the importance of including the commercial registry of the company or institution importing the activity of importing agricultural production inputs.

Modern technologies

This initiative is an important step towards supporting the economy in rural areas, providing new job opportunities, and motivating farmers to use modern and environmentally friendly technologies.
It is expected that these exemptions will contribute to improving agricultural production, reducing the environmental impact of the sector, and pushing farmers towards adopting innovative agricultural methods.
