The UAE and the European Union continue to explore the chances of upgrading strategic relations

Brussels, March 18 / WAM / The United Arab Emirates and the European Union continue to explore opportunities to improve strategic relations between them for new levels that achieve the development goals of both parties.
During their visit to Brussels, His Excellency Ahmed Ali Al -Sayegh, Minister of State and His Excellency Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al -Zyoudi, Minister of State for Foreign Trade, met a group of senior officials in the European Union to discuss ways to consolidate relations, as part of an official visit to an Emirati delegation that included both His Excellency Saeed Al -Hajri, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Economic and Commercial Affairs, and His Excellency Mohamed Al -Sahlawi, the UAE ambassador to the Kingdom of Belgium, the European Union and the European Union Luxembourgkligorg, and His Excellency Juma Al -Kate, Assistant Undersecretary for International Trade Affairs at the Ministry of Economy.
The visit, in addition to the growing economic relations between the UAE and the European Union, reflects the forward -looking vision, which seeks to consolidate its position as a leading global destination in trade and investment, by documenting strategic partnerships with all 27 member states of the bloc, knowing that the European Union, the second largest commercial partner of the UAE, has a share of 8.3% of the total non -oil foreign trade in the state in 2024.
His Excellency Ahmed Al -Sayegh stressed that the UAE believes that strengthening international cooperation is the best guarantee to meet the challenges of the global economy.
His Excellency added: “The UAE has always realized the importance of building commercial and investment partnerships, and strengthening relations with the main economic blocs around the world and in the heart, including the European Union, where the two sides share one vision about the importance of ensuring freedom of trade and facilitating their flows, and we have enabled the meetings that we conducted in Brussels to identify areas of cooperation that guarantee the free flow of goods and services between the two parties and we look forward to building on these foundations and ensuring the continuation of economic growth The subscriber.
For his part, His Excellency Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al -Zyoudi stressed the strength of economic and commercial relations between the UAE and the European Union, pointing out that the European Union is a major strategic partner for the UAE, as it represents a major economic and industrial power, and one of the influential poles in the global economy. Our bilateral relations are witnessing continuous growth, which is reflected in the high volume of trade exchange and the expansion of areas of strategic cooperation, especially in vital sectors such as food security, energy transformation and advanced technology.
His Excellency said: “Our economic relations are abundant with promising opportunities to continue this positive momentum, as close cooperation between the private sector and investors from both sides contributes to developing vital areas of high growth and concrete impact and we look forward to strengthening these firm partnerships, whether at the level of the European Union as a whole or with the member states of the Union, in a way that enhances common interests and supports the process of sustainable development.”
His Excellency Al -Sayegh and His Excellency Al -Zyoudi reviewed during the discussions with His Excellency Marus Civkovic, the European Union for Trade and Economic Security, the most important factors supporting the distinguished trade relations between the UAE and the European Union, especially in the areas of advanced industries, health care and e -commerce, which contributed to the total value of the non -oil trade value to 67.6 billion dollars in 2024, with an increase 3.6%, compared to 2023 and 18.1% compared to 2022.
The two sides also discussed the chances of increasing investment opportunities in various sectors, including logistics and renewable energy.
His Excellency Al -Sayegh and His Excellency Al -Zyoudi held a bilateral meeting with His Excellency Maria Luis Albukrique, the European Union for Financial Services and Financial Stability, to discuss the basic role of the financial sector in facilitating global trade.
The two sides highlighted the ways to improve the access of small companies to supply chains, reduce commercial barriers, and enhance across border payments, through technological financial solutions, including blockchain and decentralized financing.
In a related context, during their presence in Brussels, His Excellency Dr. Thani Al -Zyoudi and His Excellency Ahmed Al -Sayegh held meetings with senior officials in the Belgian government, including His Excellency Maxim Brevo, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, His Excellency Theo Frankeen, Minister of Foreign Trade, and His Excellency Anilis Verlinden, Minister of Justice, and His Excellency Davidclison, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Labor and Economy and Agriculture.
The two sides discussed the ways of building on flourishing inter -trade by providing more opportunities for the private sector by focusing on promising sectors such as energy, logistical services, manufacturing, food security, and others.
The non -oil inter -trade recorded $ 4.7 billion in 2024.
On the other hand, His Excellency Dr. Thani Al -Zyoudi participated in a discussion session hosted by the European Policy Center alongside Fabian Zolig, CEO and chief economist at the center, where the session dealt with the commitment of the UAE and the European Union jointly to free trade -based trade.
During the discussion, His Excellency stressed the great benefits achieved by the comprehensive economic partnership agreements program that the UAE has continued to implement since September 2021, which has so far resulted in the conclusion of 25 agreements.
His Excellency also reviewed the prospects for future cooperation between the UAE and the European Union in vital sectors that include food security, advanced manufacturing, health care, logistical services, and artificial intelligence.
