The most violent since March 28 .. A new earthquake hit the middle of Myanmar
The earthquake came at a time when Myanmar was involved in relief efforts in the wake of a huge earthquake of 7.7 degrees beating the central region of the country on March 28.
The last earthquake center was almost in the middle of the road between Mandalay, the second largest city in Myanmar, which suffered from the damage and heavy losses of the earthquake last month, and Nepidao, the capital, where many government offices were damaged at the time.
No news about losses
No reports have yet been reported about significant damage or human losses caused by the new earthquake, which is one of the most powerful hundreds of shocks that followed the earthquake last March 28.
Until Friday, the death toll from that earthquake reached 3,649 dead and 5018 wounded, according to Majer Zao Min Ton, a spokesman for the Military government in Myanmar.
The Meteorological Department of Myanmar said that the Sunday earthquake occurred in the town of Windwin, 97 km south of Mandalay, at a depth of 20 km. The American Geological Survey estimated the depth at 7.7 km.
The pace of earthquakes escalate
Since the beginning of the year 2025, the world has witnessed daily earthquakes, and it is striking to be the severity of these tremors and the diversity of their positions, as the world is witnessing strong strikes that exceed 6 degrees on the Richter scale in Asia, South America and the Mediterranean.
Types of different earthquakes
Earthquakes are classified based on their reasons for several types, most notably:
1. Tektula earthquakes: the result of the movement of tectonic plates and their slide along the faults.
2. Volcanic earthquakes: caused by volcanic activity, where the movement of magma leads to the generation of vibrations.
3. Infredient earthquakes: result from human activities such as building dams or extracting natural resources.
Studies indicate that the large number of earthquakes “with a strength of 7 degrees or more” has remained relatively fixed over the decades. However, increasing the media and modern technology contributed to increasing awareness and media coverage of earthquakes when they occur.
As for the earthquakes less in strength, there is a noticeable increase in it, and the causes of the human activity related to the incision of roads, construction and exploratory bombing, oil and gas extraction, and others.
